PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon women's volleyball team heads to Peoria, Ill. for the Bradley Tournament this week. GCU will face South Dakota State, Connecticut and Bradley in the final tune-up before the start of conference play.
Last week the Lopes hosted the GCU Tournament and dropped matches against Fordham, Gonzaga and Idaho.
Hannah Hicks was named to the All-Tournament team, becoming the third different Lope to earn a spot on an all-tournament team.
Teagan DeFalco leads GCU with 117 points, while
Claire Kovensky is second on the team with 115 points.
Hannah Hicks has a team-high 1.00 blocks per set while
Emma Ahern averages 4.50 digs per set.
GCU is the team leader in the Western Athletic Conference in aces with 50 in 34 sets this season.
South Dakota State is 1-8 this season which includes a five-set loss to WAC opponent CSUB. Last week the Jackrabbits lost three at the UND Classic to Appalachian State, George Washington and North Dakota.
SDSU is led by Makenzie Hennen with 2.57 kills per set. While Sierra Peterson averages 2.45 kills per set.
UCONN enters the week with a 5-4 mark, going 1-2 last week at the Villanova Classic. The Huskies are led by Kayla Williams with 3.30 kills per set while Kenya Cason adds 2.89 kills per set.
Bradley enters the week with a 3-7 record. The Braves went 1-2 hosting a tournament last week against Illinois-Chicago and Murray State. The Braves are led by Erica Haslag with 5.34 points per set. Kathryn Graf is second on the team with 2.79 points per set.
In two weeks the Lopes will begin WAC play with a road trip to UMKC and Chicago State on Sept. 21 and 23.
