The Grand Canyon women's golf team fired a second round 305 total, seven shots better than its first round score at the Western Athletic Conference championship on Thursday afternoon in Kansas.
"I'm so proud of the team today," said head coach
Lauren Giesecke. "If we were able to compete as a team (we can't due to our last year of transition), we would be in the running for the conference championship. Very proud of Deanna and the way she fought today."
Deanna Salvatori used a back-nine 34 to position herself for a possible WAC individual title. Salvatori has a 146 total (72, 74) and sits in a tie for first place with Ana Margarita Raga of Utah Valley and Suthavee Chanachai of New Mexico State.
"Deanna started a little rough but turned it around and made some fantastic birdies," said Giesecke. "Looking to continue moving forward as a team tomorrow and finish our season on a strong note."
The Lopes two-round score of 616 is tied for the fourth best two-day total, just 10 shots off the first place team score by New Mexico State.
Courtney Vogel has also had a solid tournament with rounds of 77 and 75, good for eighth place.Â

Amy Ruelas are tied for 24
th place.Â
Kylie Fong improved by three shots on her first round score to shoot a second round 80.
The final round of the WAC championship will take place on Friday at Indian Hills Country Club in Mission Hills, Kansas.
