TALLAHASSEE, FLA. -- The Grand Canyon beach volleyball team was defeated by the powerful No. 4 Florida State squad 3-2 in their final match of the Florida State Alumni Weekend Tournament. The Lopes went 1-2 on the weekend and fall to 15-8 on the season.
In their sole match of the day, the Lopes put up a tough fight against the Seminoles, but were ultimately unable to come back from behind.
Molly Turner and
Tjasa Kotnik finished out their perfect weekend 3-0 with a 21-16, 20-22, 15-12 victory against the Seminoles' No. 1 pair in the only three-set match between the two schools.
Kelli Iverson and
Jessica Clark earned the Lopes' second point of the day taking down their opponents 21-18, 21-15 on Court 5 right after
Emily Reinking and
Hannah Towne fell 21-17, 21-10.
Tyanna Roy and
Anna Unnasch were defeated in two quick sets as well, with scores of 21-11, 21-12, while it was left up to
Rebecca Conrad and
Jessica Stansfield to turn things around. The duo nearly overpowered their opponents in the first set, but their moves were no match for the Seminoles' dynamic No. 2 pair. Conrad and Stansfield were narrowly defeated 21-17, 21-12 to close out the day. Â
