GCU to play final home dual matches against Princeton

PHOENIX – The GCU men's volleyball team will look to extend their five-game winning streak this weekend against Princeton University. For the last time this season, the Lopes will host back-to-back home matches. Grand Canyon has been strong at home all season, going 7-3 to contribute to their overall 14-8 record.

"We are looking forward to playing host to Princeton University," GCU head coach Matt Werle commented. "They are a very well coached team and strong students of the game."

Grand Canyon is having one of the most successful seasons in program history. The Lopes are ranked third in the MIVA with a 10-4 league record. GCU will face conference foe Loyola next weekend to battle for home court advantage in the playoffs.

For the second week in a row, GCU's Cullen Mosher was named the MIVA Offensive Player of the Week. He recorded a team-high 27 kills in the Lopes five-set win over Fort Wayne last weekend and will look to continue his impressive play against Princeton.

Scouting Princeton
The Princeton Tigers have a 9-9 record this season and compete in the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association. Most recently, the Tigers were defeated by No. 3 BYU, taking the nationally ranked team to four sets.

"On Tuesday night, they competed very well against a top ranked BYU team. They have size and heavy arms," observed Werle. "This is our one opportunity to play an EIVA team and we are not taking them lightly. One of their athletes is local guy that we know very well and are happy that he has this opportunity to come 'home' to play."

Princeton and GCU have two common opponents this season. Princeton was defeated in straight sets by both Concordia Irvine and Hawaii. The Lopes dropped two matches to Hawaii this season but topped Concordia in four sets in early February.

This will be the first meeting between Princeton and Grand Canyon. The first match will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 23 and the second will also begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 24. Both games will be played in Antelope Gym.
