EDINBURG, Texas – The Lopes offense started strong but was outlasted, as the Grand Canyon women's soccer team was topped by UTRGV, 1-0, in the Western Athletic Conference opener on Friday night at UTRGV Soccer and Track Complex. GCU drops to 3-9-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while the Vaqueros advance to 6-5-2 and 1-0 in the WAC.

UTRGV struck first with a header goal off a free kick in the 14th minute to establish a 1-0 for the remainder of the contest. The Lopes outshot the Vaqueros, 6-2, in the first half, as junior
McKenzie Cook tallied three shots, all three on goal.
Cook fired four total shots in tonight's game, while freshman
Camryn Larson had two shots, both on goal, in her collegiate debut. GCU totaled 10 shots on the night with six of them on frame.
