PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Grand Canyon women's soccer team opens the 2017 WAC Tournament at GCU Soccer Stadium on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. (MST). The sixth-seeded Lopes (5-12-2, 2-4-1 WAC) face No. 3 UTRGV (9-7-3, 4-2-1 WAC) under the lights, as both look to move on to play #2 Utah Valley on Friday.
The tournament opens with a showdown between #4 Seattle U and #5 New Mexico State at 4 p.m. directly before GCU's match. UMKC earned the top seed after finishing conference play undefeated. For a full tournament bracket and live stats links for all five games, please visit our

All five games in the WAC Tournament will be broadcast live on the WAC Digital Network and live stats will be available. Tickets are available for purchase at $5 for a single game and $12 for a tournament pass. Admission is free for all students of Western Athletic Conference institutions.
Scouting UTRGV
The Lopes are tied with UTRGV, 2-2, in the all-time series. GCU fell to the Vaqueros earlier this season, 1-0, on the road in Edinburg. UTRGV earned the third seed in the 2017 WAC Tournament after finishing the season with a 4-2-1 conference record.
UTRGV fell to both UMKC and Utah Valley (OT) throughout the seven-game conference slate, while earning victories over Chicago State, GCU, New Mexico State and CSU Bakersfield. The Vaqueros tied Seattle U, 0-0, after 110 minutes of play.
UTRGV closed the 2017 regular season on a two-game winning streak after claiming victories over Chicago State (6-0) and New Mexico State (3-2).
Andreya Barrera leads the Vaqueros with seven goals and four assists on the year for 18 points. Sarah Bonney has four goals and six assists for 14 points, while Gina Steiner has three goals and three assists for nine total points on the year.
The winner of Wednesday's match will go on to play the No. 2 seed in Utah Valley on Friday night at 7 p.m.
