PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Grand Canyon women's soccer team closes the 2017 regular season at home when they play host to CSU Bakersfield on Friday, Oct. 27 at 4 p.m. The Lopes (4-12-2, 1-4-1 WAC) are coming off a double overtime draw with Seattle U last Sunday, while the Roadrunners (6-11-1, 1-4-1 WAC) lost two last weekend to Seattle U and Utah Valley.
Friday's game stands as a win and move on scenario for both teams, as the pair are tied for the sixth spot in the Western Athletic Conference standings. The game will be broadcast live by the WAC Digital Network and live stats will be available. Admission to all GCU women's soccer matches is free of charge.
Looking forward, the Lopes will host the 2017 WAC Tournament next week on Nov. 1, 3 and 5. The top six teams in the final WAC standings will compete for an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Scouting CSU Bakersfield
The Lopes trail the Roadrunners, 6-11-4, in the all-time series. Last season, the pair played twice and the Lopes came away with a victory in the first meeting, 2-1, and a draw in the second meeting, 1-1.
Bakersfield began the season by splitting a pair of games at the UTRGV tournament. The Runners earned back-to-back overtime victories over UTEP and Denver before losing to Fresno State on the road.
CSUB suffered a four-game losing streak near the end of the non-conference slate and tied New Mexico State to start WAC play. Since then, the Roadrunners are 1-4 and lost to both Seattle U and Utah Valley in 1-0 decisions over the weekend.
Bakersfield comes to Phoenix looking for a win to stay alive in 2017 postseason play. Both the Roadrunners and the Lopes need to win or tie this weekend in order to move on.
