PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Grand Canyon women's soccer team heads home for a pair of matches at the GCU Soccer Stadium this weekend. The Lopes (3-10-1, 0-2-0 WAC) host Chicago State (1-14-0, 0-2-0 WAC) under the lights on Friday night at 7 p.m. and returns to play Kansas City (7-6-1, 2-0-0 WAC) on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Both games will have live stats and will be broadcast live on GCU.tv.
Admission to the GCU Soccer Stadium is free of charge for all Lopes women's soccer games.
Scouting Chicago State
The Lopes own a 3-0-1 all-time record over the Cougars. Most recently, GCU won 9-0 in 2016 and 7-1 in 2015.
The Cougars claimed their only win of 2017 at Saint Xavier in August. Since then, they've lost 12 straight matches. Last year, Chicago State was 1-16 overall and 0-7 in the WAC. Saint Xavier was the Cougars' only win in 2016 as well.
The Cougars head to Phoenix this weekend for the second time in the history of the program and will play at GCU Soccer Stadium for the first time.
Scouting UMKC
The Lopes trail the Roos 1-3-1 in the all-time series. GCU and UMKC tied, 0-0, last season in Kansas City - the draw was 1-of-2 for the Lopes in conference play.
The Roos are on a three-game shutout and winning streak, including a 1-0 victory over Indiana State and a pair of 3-0 wins over Utah Valley and Seattle U.
Last season UMKC was 8-10-4 and 3-2-2 in the WAC. The Roos fell to Seattle in the finale of the WAC tournament, 2-1, to end the 2016 campaign. UMKC defeated UTRGV (4-1) and CSU Bakersfield (4-0) in the first two rounds of the conference tournament.
