The Grand Canyon men's basketball seeks its10th-straight home win at GCU Arena as they host the Bethesda Flames on Tuesday, January 31. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. MST and will be broadcasted live in the Phoenix area on Cox 7 Arizona and streamed online at
GCU.tv and ESPN3. Barry Buetel will be providing play-by-play with analyst Scott Williams and Kate Longworth on the sideline.
GCU fans can listen live as Michael Potter and Tom Kuyper will be airing on Fox Sports 910 AM or the iHeart Radio App. The pregame show will start 15 minutes before tip and conclude with a postgame show featuring comments from head coach
Dan Majerle.
- Grand Canyon returns home to GCU Arena, where they have won nine consecutive games dating back to December.
- GCU won their second road game of the season and improved to 4-2 in conference play with an 85-77 double-overtime win over Chicago State on Saturday afternoon.
- In the win at Chicago State, Keonta Vernon scored a career-best 24 points while tying a career-high 15 rebounds in recording his second straight double-double and team-best sixth of the season.
- DeWayne Russell leads the WAC in both scoring and assists, averaging 23.1 points per game while dishing out an average of 4.95 assists per game. Russell led the WAC in assists in 2015-16.
- Russell ranks first in the country in minutes played, averaging 38.6 per game. Russell has played at least 39 minutes in 13-of-20 games this season, including all 50 minutes of the double-overtime game vs. Chicago State on Saturday.
- Russell and Joshua Braun rank second and fourth in the WAC in scoring in conference play, averaging 21.7 and 19.2 points, respectively. In conference-only play, Russell also leads in assists (6.5) and minutes played (41.3).
- With Russell's 25 points against the Cougars on Saturday, he has now scored in double-figures in 25-straight games, the most by a GCU player in the Division I era.
- Russell is averaging 23.1 points per game, ranking seventh in the NCAA. Central Michigan's Marcus Keene leads the country (30.3).
- Martin is the only GCU player to start and play in all 22 games this season. Russell and Braun have started every game they've played, but each has missed time.
- Leo Balayon is in his second season as head coach at Bethesda, compiling a career record of 16-27 in 43 games at the helm.
- Despite a 13-point lead at halftime on Saturday night, the Flames fell to Life Pacific 82-79 in San Dimas, Calif. Buddha Boyd led Bethesda with 42 points on 15-of-26 shooting from the field, including connecting on 5-of-7 3-point attempts.
- GCU will be the sixth Division I team Bethesda has played this season. The Flames lost to Southern Utah, CSU Bakersfield, San Diego and Cal State Fullerton, but became the first NCCAA school to defeat a D1 opponent when the took down CSUN 100-95 on Dec. 20.
- Bethesda will be playing Tuesday's game as an exhibition contest. It will only count toward GCU's record.
