PHOENIX – After a competition-free week, the Grand Canyon Swimming and Diving program will head to Notre Dame for the Shamrock Invitational beginning Friday, Jan. 27-Saturday, Jan. 28. In addition to the Fighting Irish, the Lopes will also face Wisconsin, Nebraska, Missouri State and Clemson.
At the Shamrock Invitational last season, the women's team finished 1-2 while the men went 3-0. The stand-out swim came from
Mark Nikolaev in the 100-yard backstroke, posting the 13th fastest time in DI on the season and breaking Olympian Matt Grevers' previous pool record.
The Lopes will have their work cut out for them this time around, with Notre Dame (men), Ohio State and Wisconsin all ranked in the Top 25 in CollegeSwimming.com's most recent team rankings. The competition will start at 3 p.m. MST on Friday and pick up again at 8 a.m. MST on Saturday.
