SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Lopes are looking good after the first day of competition at the Notre Dame Shamrock Invitational, with the men and women both sitting comfortably in third place.
The men broke two Rolfs Aquatic Center pool records in the 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay.Â
Bogdan Plavin,
Mark Nikolaev,
Daniil Antipov and
Jacob Lambros swam the freestyle relay in 1:19.72 and finished second. Nikolaev,
Mantas Auruskevicius, Antipov and Lambros later swam the medley relay in 3:13.97, breaking the previous pool record of 3:14.19 set by GCU last year.Â
On the women's side,
Rebecca Håkansson and
Estela Davis Ortiz placed second (2:01.82) and third (2:02.92), respectively, in the 200-yard IM.
Pietro Hufnagel Toscani racked up points for the diving team with a second place finish and a score of 305.40 in the men's 1-meter.Â
The Lopes return to the water on Saturday, Jan. 28Â for the second and final day of the Shamrock Invitational. Â
