PHOENIX – It will be a quick turnaround for the Grand Canyon women's golf team as the Lopes will participate in the New Mexico State Aggie Invitational. This will be the third tournament GCU has competed in during the fall season with just tournaments left after traveling to Las Cruces, N.M.
"We are excited to make the trip to a fellow Western Athletic Conference school," head coach
Lauren Giesecke said. "Being paired up with a team from the WAC, I am eager to see how our players compete against some of the best competition the conference has to offer."
Making the trip to compete in the Aggie Invitational for the Lopes will be
Deanna Salvatori,
Leleaga Meredith,
Amy Ruelas,
Kylie Fong and
Brittany Holen. In the first two tournaments of the season, Salvatori has finished first for the Lopes after finishing third overall at the Hobble Creek Fall Classic and tied for 34th place in the most recent tournament, the Bob Burley ORU Shootout. This will be the first tournament Holen will compete in this fall.
It will be a 10-team tournament at the Aggie Invitational that includes Boise State, UTEP, UC Irvine and South Dakota State. GCU and UT Rio Grande Valley will be the only schools from the WAC to make the trip to compete in the tournament. For the first round of the tournament, the Lopes will be paired with UTRGV and UC Irvine. This will be just the second time GCU will compete in the Aggie Invitational, having competed back in 2014-15.
