PHOENIX – Grand Canyon baseball assistant coach
Gregg Wallis has had an immediate impact in his first three years with the program. Heading into his fourth year with GCU, Wallis has been promoted to recruiting coordinator.
"I am very pleased to announce that assistant coach
Gregg Wallis will now be taking over the responsibilities as recruiting coordinator for GCU baseball," head coach
Andy Stankiewicz said. "Coach Wallis has established himself as one of the finest young coaches on the West Coast. He is a tireless worker and his built relationships with high school, junior college and club coaches across the West."
Under Wallis' guidance, GCU has had 12 position players earn All-WAC honors including outfielder
Garrison Schwartz being named Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year in 2015 and a First Team At-Large All-WAC selection in 2016.
"I am very honored coach Stankiewicz has trusted me with this responsibility," Wallis said. "I can't thank coach or Grand Canyon University enough for this opportunity. I look forward to the challenge of recruiting student-athletes and to continue the winning tradition of GCU baseball."
Having played college baseball in California, attending UC Irvine where he was a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, Wallis has connections all throughout the West Coast and has the ability to mold young players and produce at a high level.
Working with players in the batting cage and in the outfield, Wallis helped GCU's 2015 offense to the seventh highest team batting average in the country while Schwartz had the third highest batting average in the country among freshmen in Division I at .357 and
Paul Panaccione was ranked 26th in Division I with a .376 batting average.
"His ability to evaluate and communicate with today's young student-athlete will pay huge dividends for our program" Stankiewicz said.
