Lopes travel to Weber State, host UTEP in home debut

PHOENIX- The Grand Canyon women's soccer team will conclude its three-game road stint Friday, Aug. 26 when it heads to Ogden, Utah to meet Weber State. The Lopes will then return to Phoenix for their home opener and GCU Stadium debut. The Lopes will be hosting UTEP on Sunday, Aug. 28.

GCU Notables

In the opening weekend, the Lopes suffered a pair of losses to Eastern Washington and Idaho.
GCU fell 0-1 to Eastern Washington in overtime and lost to Idaho 1-3 on Sunday.
Madison Cox scored the Lopes first goal of the 2016 season at Idaho.
Blakely Fraasch made the start in goal for GCU and had seven saves on the weekend.
McKenzie Cook led the team with five shots and two shots on goal.

Over the weekend, three Lopes made their collegiate debuts. Fiona Samodurov started both contests while Katie Stein and Madison Wisely came off the bench. Alexis Roberts also made her GCU debut after starting against Eastern Washington on Friday.
Samodurov and Kelsey Smith played all 184 minutes over the weekend.

Scouting Weber State

The Wildcats dropped their season opener to Utah 4-0 last Friday.
In 2015, Weber State finished with a 10-9-1 overall record.
The Wildcats return four starters, including three-time First Team All-Big Sky Conference selection Chamsi Crompton. In 2015, Crompton tallied three goals and 16 offensive points. She is Weber State's career assists leader with 24.
Weber State also adds 12 freshmen to the lineup and will lean on their upperclassman for leadership and experience.

Scouting UTEP

The Miners went 1-0-1 in their opening weekend.
UTEP defeated New Mexico State 5-0 in its season opener and ended its match against Abilene Christian in a scoreless draw.
The Miners went 5-of-25 in goals and shot attempts and scored 2.50 goals per game. They also had seven corner kicks and a pair of saves.
UTEP finished 2015 with a 11-7-2 overall record. They return 12 letter winners, including nine starters. They also welcome 13 newcomers to the team.

Weber State

The Lopes will meet Weber State for the second time in program history. Weber State currently leads the all-time series at 1-0-0.

Weber State defeated the Lopes last season in Phoenix and snapped its seven game win-streak in the process.
The last time the two teams met, the Lopes offensively controlled the game, but the Wildcats scored late in the second half to seal the victory.

UTEP

GCU will meet the miners for the second time in program history. UTEP leads the Lopes in the all-time series at 1-0-0.
The last meeting came in 2015, where the Lopes fell to UTEP 4-1 in their first road match of the year.
The Miners rattled off three goals in the first half. The Lopes responded in the second half with a goal from Milla Benedetti, but could not close the gap.
