Lopes fall to FIU,Stetson on Day 2 in Siesta Key

SIESTA KEY, Fla. – The Grand Canyon beach volleyball team battled on Day 2 of the Fiesta on Siesta Key Tournament, but fell to opponents Florida International 4-1 and Stetson 3-2. The Lopes are now 13-5 on the year.

Match 1
In a hard fought contest, the Lopes fell to Florida International 4-1 to open up Day 2 of Fiesta on Siesta Key Tourney action. Aleksandra Wachowicz/Molly Turner highlighted the dual competition for the Lopes as they took home the solo victory of the contest on Court 2. They downed FIU's Martyna Gluchowicz/Marina Boulanger, 23-21,18-21, 15-12 in three sets. FIU took an early 3-0 lead after claiming Courts 4, 5 and 1 in two straight sets. On Court 3, Chloe Jenkins/Rebecca Conrad forced a third set after going,14-21, 21-16, but ultimately fell to FIU's Anabela Sataric/Estefanie Bethancour 11-15 in the third set.

Match 2
While the Lopes battled from behind, they were not able to take enough courts to solidify the victory and suffered their fifth loss of the season to Stetson University. Pair's Mackenzie Phelps/Shannon Dugan and Aleksandra Wachowicz/Molly Turner were responsible for the Lopes two wins of the day on Courts 1 and 2. Phelps/Dugan downed Stetson's Melissa Morello/Kayla Tronick, 21-18, 21-17 in two, while Wachowicz/Turner took care of Kristin Lind/Rachel Noble, 21-9,21-19. The Lopes forced no third sets on Saturday afternoon as Stetson took Courts 3,4 and 5 in two straight sets.

The Lopes look to finish the Fiesta on Siesta Key Tournament on a high note as they take on North Florida Sunday morning at 6:30 a.m. MST in their tourney finale.
