PHOENIX – It's back-to-back tournament action for the Grand Canyon beach volleyball team as they gear up for Fiesta on Siesta Key in Florida on Friday, April 8 to Sunday, April 10 following the LSU Beach Invitational. The Lopes will face College of Charleston, Florida Atlantic University, Florida International, Stetson and North Florida all for the first time this season.
Now in its seventh year, Fiesta on Siesta Key is the nation's largest, collegiate sand volleyball tournament. The focus this year, unlike others in the past, will be the dual competitions.
GCU will kick off their busy, five-match schedule by taking on the Florida Atlantic Owls (9-10) at 9:30 a.m. MST on Friday followed by the College of Charleston Cougars (8-6) at 11:30 a.m. They'll return to the courts on Saturday for two more matches against the Florida International Panthers (9-7) at 6:30 a.m. and the Stetson Hatters (20-6) at 1 p.m. To kick off the final day of the tournament, the Lopes play the North Florida Ospreys (14-3) at 6:30 a.m.
Going into the weekend at 11-3, the Lopes are prepared to overcome a rigorous weekend and challenge some new competition after suffering two major losses to Florida State and Louisiana State at the season's first tournament style matchup last weekend.
