PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon women's basketball team started its 2015-16 season at home and they will conclude the regular season where it began, at GCU Arena. The Lopes will face Utah Valley, for a chance to jump in a three-way tie for second place in the Western Athletic Conference with the Wolverines and UT Rio Grande Valley. Before GCU faces the Wolverines, the team will honor its four seniors
Devyn Edwards,
Courtney Hayes,
Cheyenne Hedrington and
Dana Jones.
GCU has received great contributions from its seniors as the four players have averaged 36.1 points per game this season of the 61.5 points GCU averages in a game. The four have combined for 20.7 rebounds per game. Hayes leads the WAC in assists by more than two per game at 6.7 a contest. Hedrington ranks in the top-10 in scoring within the conference at 11.3 points per game along with 6.9 rebounds per game, which is third best in the WAC. Jones has been one of the WAC's top newcomers this year ranked 11th in scoring (11.1 ppg), sixth in rebounding (6.6 rpg) and 11th in field goal percentage (43.5 fpg). Edwards has made three starts this season, averaging 3.3 points per game along with 2.1 rebounds per game.

August Touchard was named to the WAC Preseason All-Second Team. After losing Touchard and
Casey Rarrick to injury, head coach
Trent May and his squad proved the doubters wrong fighting for one of the top spots in the conference this season. GCU has the chance to sweep the season series against Utah Valley for the second time since being a member of the WAC.
The Lopes have the chance to improve their win total by three games from this season compared to last year. In 2014-15, GCU ended the season with a 13-15 record and this season the team will end the regular season with at least a .500 record with the possbiility of 16 wins. If the Lopes come out on top in their season finale, they will surpass their win total within the conference from last season by one game.
Scouting Utah ValleyUtah Valley poses one of the best offenses in the conference this season scoring 66.9 points per game, which is second best in the WAC, behind New Mexico State at 69.7 points a game. The Wolverines average the fewest turnovers in the WAC this season at 14.4 per game. Leading UVU this season has been Mariah Seals scoring 11.5 points per game, the eighth highest average in the WAC this season. Rebecca MaWhinney has been a consistent force on the boards this season grabbing 6.3 rebounds per game. Utah Valley was picked to finish sixth, behind GCU in the WAC Preseason Poll but currently sit in a tie for second place with UT Rio Grande Valley.
