2016 Fall Fitness Challenge
12/14/2016 1:30:00 PM | Sports Performance
Each semester, the Performance Athletics Staff hosts a Fall Fitness Challenge in which all of GCU's off season teams compete to see who has the most well rounded athleticism. Over 200 athletes competed throughout six events. The events covered speed, agility, coordination, general fitness, total body strength & power, sport specific skill, and mental capacity. The strength/power tests included skills like bench press and Medicine Ball Throws while other events required memorization. Another event event had athletes completing an agility course while trying not to spill the glass of water they were holding.
At each event there was the potential for each team to earn between 1 and 5 points. This year's theme was "Next." For the athletes, "Next" represents a mindset. In sports, as in life, every challenge is an opportunity to grow. The "Next" mindset is one that embraces adversity and promotes resiliency. Each of the events represented its own specific challenges for each team. As each team conquered an event, they immediately sought to be given the next challenge – the next opportunity to improve themselves. Each of the teams competed with heart and enthusiasm.
After all was said and done, Men's Soccer and Women's Track came out as champions.
Men:
1.           Men's Soccer
2.           Track 1
3.           Men's Lacrosse
Â
Women:
1.           Track 2
2.           Track 1
3.           Women's Soccer
Â
After the competition, the athletes went to the South Gym for food followed by some performances from the GCU dance team, Men's Volleyball Alumni Trent Bruns and others. To close out the night, Chuck Howard spoke and invited athletes to take the most important "Next" step of giving their life to following Jesus Christ.Â
