PHOENIX -- The newly upgraded Lopes Performance Center is joined by a growing staff, including Gabe Bourland in a new role and three additional Performance Specialists.Â
Bourland is beginning his first school year as the Director of Sports Performance at GCU after serving as a Performance Athletics Specialist for the past three years. He will oversee the entire Sports Performance department and work specifically with the men's basketball program. Bourland welcomes Anna Kuzan, Mike Henriques and Tyler Pinkney to his roster for the 2017-18 school year.Â
Anna Kuzan earned her Master of Science in Sports Administration from Georgia State University and served as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Georgia Tech and University of Mississippi before coming to GCU.Â
Mike Henriques will work primarily with the GCU baseball team. He spent the past seven years working on strength and conditioning programs for the Oakland Athletics and brings a total 12 years of professional baseball training experience to his role with the sports performance staff.
Tyler Pinkney developed his skills in the sports performance departments of several universities including Duke, University of Houston and University of Oregon. Most recently, Pinkney worked with 15 different sports as the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach and Sport Nutritionist at Upper Iowa University.Â
The staff will work closely with athletes in the newly recently expanded Lopes Performance Center. The summer expansion plan added a total of 7,000 square feet to the facility, including over 3,000 square feet of athletic weight room space complete with new equipment.Â
