Each week, a loaded schedule for the 21 GCU Division I athletic squads may leave a Lopes fan missing out on some of the highlights! With that in mind, GCULopes.com will give you the best fast reads each Tuesday, quick hits of what's coming up soon and the top nuggets you may have missed.

1 | BASKETBALL IS HERE! | Basketball |
It's officially game week for the men's basketball squad who opens up the 2016-17 campaign with an exhibition game against Adams State at GCU Arena on Thursday night. The Lopes are coming off of a 27-7 finish a year ago and are looking to make noise in their final season of Division I transition. The game will be broadcast on Cox 7 Arizona and GCU.TV. Plus! 2 | SOCCER RISING | Men's & Women's Soccer |
Both the men's and women's soccer team put a wrap on WAC play this weekend, with the men emerging victorious in the home finale on Sunday. Both squads made tremendous strides over the course of the year with the men's team improving from a 10th place finish last year to claim 4th this season, and the women improving from 4th to 3rd. 3 | GOLF GOES OUT ON TOP | Men's Golf |
The men's golf team completed its fall schedule with a runner-up finish at the Pacific Invitational. GCU's fall season included a pair of first-place tournament wins and this week's second-place showing. GCU was led by Vinnie Murphy who finished in seventh place with rounds of 69-70-69. Jake Chanen was just outside the top-10 in 13th place with rounds of 74-71-68. 4 | PROCTOR FINISHES NO. 2 IN WAC | Cross Country |
Despite the wet and slippery conditions in Seattle, Wash., redshirt junior Samuel Proctor paced the GCU cross country teams with a second place finish at the WAC Championships. Proctor ran the 8k in 25:06, just under three seconds behind Bryce Miller of UMKC. As for the team scores, the men and women finished fourth and sixth, respectively, in the WAC standings. (Men's Results | Women's Results | Meet Recap) | ||
5 | SWIMMERS SMASH POOL RECORDS | Swimming & Diving |
The swimming team wrapped up an action-packed, two-day meet at Seattle with six new pool records and several sweeping victories. The men's team defeated Seattle 110-94 on Friday and 125-79 on Saturday. The women's team suffered a 106-98 loss to Seattle on Friday, but defeated them 129-75 on Saturday while sweeping Loyola Marymount 140.5-61.5 and 158-43. The Lopes travel to Colorado Springs, Colo. to take on Air Force this weekend. (Meet Recap) |
