PHOENIX -- Organized by director of performance athletics Chuck Howard, the bi-annual Fitness Challenge is an event that includes athletic teams from the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (NCAA Division I teams) and club sports on campus coming together to compete in different athletic events. The event gives athletes a chance to bond with members of other teams, and provides a competition setting in athletic challenges that may not be their specialty.
Players are recognized individually for outstanding performance during the event and an overall award is given to the highest-scoring team of the night. At the end of the event, the athletes get together to eat and worship, while some athletes boldly share their testimonies and special talents to the group. It is a great night of bonding, worship, and healthy competition.
The GCU Dance Team was one of many squads represented during the event. Highlights included a broad range of thoughts, some of which we currated here, including:
Ashley Vest: "You can bench press for 4 minutes, complete a worship dance, and give your life to Christ all in one night if you just believe in the team. I believe in the team we love. As a team, we dominate."
Abby Swartz: "During the PAC Challenge I loved watching our team love and support each other. Normally we bring the spirit to all other events, so it was fun to watch us bring the support to one another."
Nichole Chavez: "It was so amazing to see all the athletic teams get together and have fun! Also, I loved at the end how people shared their testimonies and I got to see some of my teammates commit their lives to Christ."
Kenzie Bogue: "The PAC Challenge showed how much our team supports one another and so much encouragement."
Mckenna Ross: "Seeing my sisters accept Christ that night at the PAC Challenge was a sight I hope I never forget. I love seeing each and everyone of them grow."
Alexa Uekert: "At the PAC Challenge I found myself genuinely smiling while dancing for the first time in my life. That was the night I said, "This is it, God" and I gave my life to Him surrounded by the most supportive team I have ever been a part of."
Kara Seratte: "At the PAC Challenge we really had the opportunity to share with other athletes what our faith means to our team, and tell a story of the journey that has brought us to where we are at now."
Amanda Johnson: "It was such an amazing chance to show others we are athletes as well. Our team is so loving toward one another and it was cool to show the other sports our compassion for both dance and Christ."
Laikyn Ring: "I was so happy to give my life to Christ with 25-plus athletes, It was an experience unlike any other."
Madi Reimers: "I was so impressed by how vulnerable everyone allowed themselves to be during the worship time. Growing closer on a spiritual level with my sisters is an amazing experience."
