Natalie Tardy's strong offensive efforts highlighted the weekend for the Lopes, earning a slot on the all-tournament team and totaling 41 kills. She had her best match against Northern Arizona where she recorded a .263 hitting percentage in GCU's loss to the competitive team.
Grand Canyon took on UC Riverside for the second time last weekend, falling just short 3-1 with a series of close sets. They were defeated by a narrow two-point deficit in the first two sets (25-23, 28-26), before winning the third 25-20. The Highlanders won the final set 25-21. In addition to Tardy's 15 kills,
Hannah Hicks recorded seven blocks and
Michelle Steagall had 39 assists and five service aces.
The Lopes fell 3-0 to both Northern Arizona and Boise State. Against Northern Arizona, Tardy had 13 kills while
Melody Horton picked up an additional nine kills to tie her season record. In their final match of the weekend, Tardy earned 13 kills and Steagall had 24 assists against Boise State.
Scouting BakersfieldThe Roadrunners have a 2-10 record entering conference play after falling to No. 12 Hawai'i in a pair of matches last weekend. The team earned a set over the Rainbow Wahine in their match on Friday for a 3-1 defeat before being swept on Sunday's match. Their wins include a five-set match over Lipsombe and a four-set victory over Alabama State
Kelsee Sawyer leads Bakersfield with 143 kills and a .254 hitting percentage. Luiza Martins has 226 assists during the season while Sophie Flemion has 190. Leading in service aces, Edithza Urias has earned 14 in addition to her 119 kills.
