Chad De La Guerra has been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week for April 27-May 3, as announced by the conference office.
It is the sixth WAC award for the team this season, with
Humberto Aranda,
Paul Panaccione,
Coley Bruns,
Andrew Naderer and De La Guerra taking earlier honors.
De La Guerra led the Lopes to a 4-1 week, including a two-game sweep at nationally-ranked Texas Tech. He was 11-for-23 on the week for a .478 average, knocking three home runs and driving home nine RBI. De La Guerra's biggest game came in yesterday's series-finale with Seattle, going 4-for-6 with five RBI and two runs scored as GCU won 13-11 in 13 innings.
The win yesterday gave GCU the series win and kept the Lopes in first place in the WAC. GCU is 28-20 overall and 15-5 in the WAC. Bakersfield, which won a three-game series over Northern Colorado over the weekend, moved to second place at 14-6-1 in the conference. GCU plays host to Bakersfield for a three-game set next weekend. Friday and Saturday games at Brazell Stadium begin at 6:30 p.m. Sunday's contest starts at noon.
