The Grand Canyon softball team (13-12) earned a 10-2 run-rule victory over Loyola Marymount (10-16) Friday on day two of the Capital Classic Tournament in Sacramento, Calif. The Antelopes had their six-game winning streak snapped by tournament host Sacramento State (9-12) in game two, falling 6-5 to the Hornets.Â
In game one, GCU grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, as the Lopes used a
Kelsey Barak two-run double and a
Camree Wartman RBI single to plate three runs.
The Lopes tacked on four in the fourth and three in the sixth to earn the run-rule victory.
Brittany Medina's two-run shot highlighted the scoring in the sixth for GCU. The home run marked the third of the season for the first-year slugger.
Taylor Nowlin fanned nine in five innings of relief work to pick up her sixth win of the year in the circle. The sophomore left-hander didn't allow a run and allowed just four hits.
GCU's five-run sixth inning wasn't enough in game two, as Sacramento State hung on to pick up the 6-5 victory. The Lopes strung together six consecutive singles in the sixth to generate their five runs, but couldn't push across a run in the seventh. Â
Kayla Henry went 2-for-4 at the dish against the Hornets to pace the GCU offense.
Kailey Regester suffered the loss in the circle, hurling four innings Friday. Nowlin didn't allow an earned run in two innings of relief effort. Â
