The Grand Canyon University softball team (14-13) picked up a 5-0 shutout win over Sacramento State (9-13) Saturday on the third day of play at the Capital Classic Tournament in Sacramento, Calif. The Antelopes fell, 4-3, to Loyola Marymount (11-17)Â in game two Saturday.
In game one,
Bailey Bergman delivered a gem in the circle, hurling a complete-game shutout. The sophomore struck out a pair en route to moving her season record to 2-0.
The Lopes scored once in the first and tacked on two more in the third and fifth for their five runs.
Bianca Boling blasted her team-leading seventh home run of the season in the fifth, while
Camree Wartman recorded RBI singles in both the first and third innings and
Kelsey Barak blasted a RBI double—her eighth of the season— in the third to lead GCU.
Loyola Marymount scored in the bottom of the seventh to top GCU, 4-3, in Saturday's second game.
Barak tallied RBI singles in both the first and third to produce two of GCU's three runs. The senior shortstop finished with three hits at the dish in four trips. Wartman accounted for Canyon's third run, driving a RBI single to left-center in the third to score Barak.
Taylor Nowlin suffered the loss in the circle, entering the game in the fifth in relief of starter
Kailey Regester. Nowlin allowed just one hit and one earned run in 2.2 innings of relief work. Regester tossed the first four innings, surrendering three runs on seven LMU hits.
The Lopes will close out play at the Capital Classic Tournament Sunday with an 11:15 a.m. contest against Loyola Marymount. Live stats for Sunday's games will be available at
