Grand Canyon (12-11, 3-3) opens their two-game road trip when they return to action Thursday, Feb. 5, where they will face Seattle (10-10, 3-3) at the Key Arena in Seattle, Wash. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. (AZ time). The contest can be heard on radio on KXXT 1010 AM (also via the KXXT "TuneIn Radio" App), with GCU Alum Michael Potter calling the action alongside 'The Coach", Dan Nichols. VS. SEATTLE UThis marks the fourth meeting between GCU and Seattle U with the Lopes holding the 3-0 lead in the all-time series. GCU swept the two-game Western Athletic Conference series last season, winning 71-63 at home before posting a close 74-73 victory on the road.
LAST TIME OUTGCU dropped a close 56-55 decision to Chicago State on Jan. 31 at GCU Arena. The Lopes led for most of the game before the Cougars made a late rally and scored the game-winning basket with seven seconds on the clock. DeWayne Russell led GCU with 23 points, while De'Andre Davis added 10 points off the bench.
HARD TO SCORE ON GCU'S DEFENSEGCU's defense has held the opposition to under 60 points in their past two games and on six occasions this season. The Lopes are 5-1 in those games, outscoring opponents 399-312. The six games are tied for fourth-most (with Utah Valley and Chicago State) among WAC teams, as Bakersfield has 12 such games, New Mexico State has nine, and Seattle U has seven.
