Grand Canyon (16-13, 7-5) closes out the road portion of their regular season when they face Kansas City (12-17, 7-5) tonight at 5 p.m. (AZ time). The Antelopes are looking to snap a two-game losing streak. The WAC matchup can be heard on radio on KXXT 1010 AM (also via the KXXT "TuneIn Radio" App), with GCU Alum Michael Potter calling the action alongside 'The Coach", Dan Nichols. VS. KANSAS CITYGrand Canyon and Kansas City are set to meet for the fifth time in school history. The Antelopes defeated the Roos 78-57 on Jan. 29 at GCU Arena. GCU shot 51.1 percent (24-for-47) from the floor, including an impressive 9-for-16 (56.3 percent) from beyond the three-point line. The Kangaroos shot 40.4 percent (21-for-52). Joshua Braun led the Lopes with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
LAST TIME OUTGrand Canyon trailed by as many as 19 in the second half to Chicago State, before rallying to cut the deficit to just two points with 8:32 left in the game and again with 1:37 left in the contest. GCU was unable to close out the game, eventually falling 74-70, their second loss to the Cougars this season. Joshua Braun led the team with 15 points.
NEVER A DULL A MOMENTGCU has played in 13 games decided by five or fewer points this season, including five of their last seven. The Lopes are 7-6 in those games. In those 13 contests, GCU has lost six by a combined 12 points and have won seven by a combined 21 points. Of those six losses, three have been by two points and two have been by just one point.
TAKING CARE OF THE BALLGCU committed only 26 turnovers in a four-game stretch from Jan. 31 – Feb. 14, committing eight turnovers on two occasions and only five each in the other two games. However, the Lopes committed 37 turnovers in the past three games. The Lopes are 6-8 this season when turning the ball over more than their opponent.
FALLING BEHINDGCU has found themselves in a halftime hole in each of their last three games, with the last two resulting in defeats. GCU is now 2-10 when trailing at the break and has been behind in six of its 10 road games (led 3 and tied once). Subsequently, the Lopes have been defeated in all six of those road games they have trailed at the half.
