Cal State Northridge knocked out 12 hits to snap Grand Canyon's season opening seven-game win streak with a 10-1 victory at Matador Field in Northridge, Calif.
Today was the finale in a road trip that saw the Antelopes sweep Cal Poly, before falling to the Matadors this afternoon.
CSUN (9-1) took control early scoring a run in the first and two in the second. GCU starter,
Zebastian Valenzuela, went 2.1 innings, giving up those three runs (two earned) on five hits. He fanned one and walked one.
After plating a run in the fourth inning, CSUN would score six runs in the seventh to open a 10-0 lead.
GCU avoided the shutout, scoring a run in the eighth.
Greg Saenz singled to lead off the inning and moved to second on a ground out. He would score on a two-out RBI double by
David Walker.
GCU was held to season low four hits, with the others coming from
Chad De La Guerra and
Rouric Bridgewater.
Jake Repavich,
Ruben Rincon and
Travis Garcia-Perreira all saw action out of the pen.
Josh Walker tossed a scoreless eighth.
Grand Canyon now returns home for six straight, beginning with four against Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The series begins on Friday at 7 p.m. at Brazell Stadium in Phoenix, Ariz. The two will play a doubleheader on Saturday and single contest on Sunday. Go to
