Grand Canyon (15-11, 6-3) returns home to GCU Arena to take on UTPA (9-17, 3-7) tonight at 7 p.m. The Antelopes have won three straight and four of their last five. The WAC matchup can be heard on radio on KXXT 1010 AM (also via the KXXT "TuneIn Radio" App), with GCU Alum Michael Potter calling the action alongside 'The Coach", Dan Nichols. Cox7 will carry the television broadcast, which can also be found on www.cox7.com, beginning with their pregame show at 6:30 p.m.VS. UTPAGrand Canyon and UTPA are meeting for the second time this season and fourth time overall. The Broncs defeated the Lopes, 73-72, on Jan. 24 in Edinburg, Tex. Last season the Antelopes won both contests between the two schools.
LAST TIME OUTGCU shot a season-best 61.8 in their 83-57 win over Utah Valley on Feb. 14. The Lopes had five players score in double figures and were led by DeWayne Russell's 19 points. GCU shot 72.0 percent (18-for-25) in the opening half. On the glass, GCU held a 33-24 advantage, which led to a 38-22 points in the paint edge.
NAIL BITERS!GCU has played in 11 games decided by five or fewer points this season, including three straight and four of their last five. The Lopes are 6-5 in those games. In those 11 contests, GCU has lost five by a combined eight points and have won six by a combined 16 points. Of those five losses, three have been by two points and two have been by just one point.
TAKING CARE OF THE BALLGCU has turned the ball over only 18 times in their last three games, all wins, including a season-low five on Feb. 5 at Seattle and Feb. 14 vs. Utah Valley. The Antelopes are 9-4 this season when committing fewer turnovers their opponent.
