Spokane, Wash. – The Grand Canyon women's basketball team played its final game in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge in Spokane, Wash. as they faced West Virginia. The Antelopes shot 56.5 percent from the field in the second half to make a late comeback but the Lopes fell to the Mountaineers 68-50.
"We faces great competition these last three nights," head coach Trent May said. "You can focus on the score or the look for small victories. We held each of these teams under their scoring averages, along with holding some really good scorers under their averages as well."Â

GCU (2-4) received a season-high 23 points from
Cheyenne Hedrington, off 50 percent shooting from the field (8-16) including a team-high six rebounds.

The Lopes had the task of containing Bria Holmes, who was named to the Wooden Award Preseason Top-30 in the preseason 19.5 points per game and GCU's defense was able to limit her below her season average, scoring 14 points, making five field goals. Grand Canyon was able to hang with West Virginia scoring 24 points in the paint, compared to 28 points from West Virginia. The Lopes stepped up in terms of rebounding pulling down 30 boards while WVU had 34 rebounds. GCU outrebounded the Mountaineers on offense 13-9 including six rebounds on offense from Hedrington.

WVU jumped out to a 17-8 lead in the first quarter and after trailing by 14 at halftime, GCU continued to battle and after scoring 11 points in the third quarter, GCU was able to outscore West Virginia 25-22 in the second quarter to end the game strong.
"We are trying to find our groove on the offensive end and we know that it will happen," May said. "We are looking forward to some days off before we get back at it this weekend."Â

The Antelopes have played their final game in Spokane, Wash. but will conclude the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge in Uncasville, Conn. against Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, Nov. 29, concluding the tournament.Â
