Box Score (PDF)BAKERSFIELD – The Grand Canyon soccer men's team took its two-match WAC winning streak on the road against CSU Bakersfield. The Antelopes made a late comeback against the Roadrunners but it wasn't enough as the Lopes drop the 2-1 match to Bakersfield. GCU is now 6-4-0 this season.

Bakersfield was able to apply pressure in spurts throughout the first half on GCU's defense. Late in the first half the Roadrunners would capitalize in the 39
th minute off a goal from Hugo Vinales to take the 1-0 lead going into halftime.

GCU had four shots in the first half, all by different players and the Lopes did not allow a single corner kick from the Roadrunners in the first 45 minutes of play.

Looking to tie the match in the second half, the Lopes attacked early to open the half and it paid off for GCU as freshman Damian German scored his second goal of the season in the 48
th minute. Alberto Sanchez Garcia was able to serve a ball for German in the box where German took advantage of his opportunity and tied the match at 1-1.

Garcia has now recorded a point in eight of the last nine matches.

GCU picked up its offensive attack in the final 45 minutes attempting nine shots led by Niki Jackson and Alex Halis with three shots each. Eight different players attempted a shot for Grand Canyon

The tie didn't last long as Mario Iniguez scored three minutes later, as Bakersfield retook the lead with 39 minutes left in the match.

Grand Canyon will close out its roadtrip on Sunday, Oct. 11, against San Jose State at 1 p.m.
