SAN JOSE – The Grand Canyon men's soccer team wrapped up its first WAC roadtrip of the season on Sunday against San Jose State. The Antelopes fell behind early to the Spartans and SJSU was able to pull away to a 6-0 victory. GCU is now 6-5-0 this season.

San Jose State got on the Lopes early in the game as GCU had to play from behind since the 10 minute mark. Rory Knibbs scored in the 10th minute off an assist from Jonathan Partida to give SJSU the early 1-0 lead.

GCU was able to attempt seven shots in the first with one on goal while the Spartans attempted six shots. Grand Canyon went into halftime trailing San Jose State 1-0. Like the first half, San Jose State would strike again early in the second half three minutes into it as Jonathan Colunga to give the Spartans the 2-0 lead. The Spartans would extend their lead to three goals in the 56th minute off a second goal from Knibbs.

In the 63rd minute Partida would tack on SJU's fourth goal of the game and in the 73rd minute Zach Penner scored to make it 5-0 and Kyler McLaughlin scored the final goal of the match in the 78th minute.

GCU was able to put 15 shots up in the match with five on target. Niki Jackson and Alberto Sanchez Garcia led the Lopes with four shots each but Jose Rodriguez Nieblas led GCU with two shots on goal.

GCU will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 15, as they continue its WAC roadtrip against Incarnate Word.Â
