PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon University women's volleyball team (4-18, 2-8) fell to Seattle U (15-9, 7-4) in three sets today in Grand Canyon University Arena.
The Lopes were defeated in the first two sets 25-22, before falling 25-20 in the third. The match featured 17 ties and eight lead changes between the two squads.
Gracie Dimond had strong efforts behind the line. In the second set, she served six straight to give the Lopes a four point lead. In the third set, she served another eight consecutive, helping the team earn a comeback from a 16-10 deficit to take a one point lead.
During the match, both Dimond and
Megan Byrnes had four block assists. Dimond is ranked sixth in conference for blocks earned during conference matches (.91 per set). Byrnes led with 11 kills and a .375 hitting percentage.
Randahl Powers had 12 assists in the match, followed closely by
Michelle Steagall's 10 assists. Steagall is ranked 10
th in conference for assists per set (5.62), while Powers is ranked seventh in conference matches (6.80).
Haley Glass had 13 digs during the match and continues to hold the second slot in conference for digs per set (4.00).
Both teams had four service aces, with Steagall earning two for GCU.
Next week, Grand Canyon will take on UTRGV at 5 p.m. in Edinburg, Tex., before facing WAC-leader New Mexico State at 1 p.m. on Nov. 1 in Las Cruces, N.M. A full recap will be available at
