Live StatsLive VideoPHOENIX – After splitting a pair of conference matches last week, the Grand Canyon University women's volleyball team (8-14, 2-5) is looking to continue their season against Bakersfield.
In their first match last week, the team was defeated 3-0 by UMKC.
Hannah Hicks led with seven kills, while Randy Powers had 23 assists. Powers is sixth in conference in assists per game for conference matches with her 7.55 average. Libero
Haley Glass picked up 13 digs. For her efforts, she is ranked second in digs per set in both conference-only and all-season matches, averaging 3.57 in conference and 3.61 overall.
Grand Canyon earned their second conference win of the season last Saturday against Chicago State. Powers snagged another 31 assists and Glass grabbed 18 more digs.
Melody Horton had 13 kills for a .265 average, while
Jordyn Sanchez had 11 kills (.290). Her efforts at the net earned Sanchez the 10
th slot on the conference-only match leaderboard in kills per set (2.92 average).
Emily Christensen had seven kills and five block assists.
Leigh Stonerook added four block assists to her own total.
Scouting BakersfieldDuring their last meeting, GCU forced the match to five-sets, falling just short in the final. Bakersfield is entering the match after winning two on the road against Chicago State and UMKC. Kelsee Sawyer had the most kills in both matches with 15 against Chicago State and 23 against Kansas City.
Against Chicago State, Luiza Martins had 38 assists in the 3-0 win. Sawyer had a stellar .722 hitting percentage with only two errors during the match. Edithaza Urias collected 14 kills with a .391 percentage as well as three service aces.
When facing the 'Roos, the 'Runners battled it out in a five-set match to secure the win. Martins earned 48 assists during the match, while Carol Grasso contributed 17 kills (.244). Grasso also picked up 20 digs.
