BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Grand Canyon University women's volleyball team (4-16, 2-6) fell to Bakersfield (8-12, 6-2) in three sets today in the Icardo Center.
Grand Canyon fell in the first two sets 25-12 and 25-11, but fought back with a strong third set, falling just short 26-24.
"Our mentality, immaturity, and youth showed through today by allowing outside distractions take our focus off of what we are capable of doing in the first two sets," said head coach Kris Naber. "However, I thought we made some good adjustments in the third set and started battling. Losing the last three points on controllable balls, two bad passes, and getting used on the block can't happen when a team is up 2-0 at home."
Jordyn Sanchez let the team in kills with 12 during the match and a .267 hitting percentage. She also earned eight digs and two service aces during the match for a total of 15 points.
Natalie Tardy entered the game to pick up six kills off of 15 attempts with no errors (.400).
"Jordyn competed and found a way to get kills and swing aggressively and it was nice to see Natalie come in and find success," continued Naber.

Haley Glass tallied another 19 digs to her season average to 3.75 in digs per set—among the highest in conference.
Randahl Powers added another 12 assists at setter.
"This group has made so many strides this season, we've got to remember that," concluded Naber. "We're all committed to challenging ourselves when we get back in the gym and continue to make strides in the right direction."
