PHOENIX – After earning some competitive wins at the San Diego State and Long Beach State Invites, the Grand Canyon University men's and women's tennis teams will continue their fall season at the ITA Southwest Regionals this week in Calif. Both tournaments will run from Oct. 15-19, with the men's tournament being hosted in Malibu, Calif., and the women's tournament in San Diego, Calif.
Last weekend, the men's team faced the San Diego State Invite in series of tough matches against strong Southern California competition.
One of the highlights of their weekend was
Mitch Maroscher's success in singles where he made his way to the semifinals of a 32-man draw in the first flight. He won his first round over a player from San Diego State. He followed up with a decisive straight sets victory over USC's Kalman Boyd and advanced over an athlete from Washington in the quarterfinals. He fell to Jake Devine from USC in the semifinals.
Maroscher also teamed up with
Adrian Legarreta to win the consolation finals in the doubles draws.
Alexander Roggenkamp also with 3-1 in singles this weekend and picked up a doubles win over USC alongside
Felix Schueller.
The women's team took on the Long Beach State Fall Invite where they picked up some strong victories of their own.
Lana Rinaldi and
Lana Macukat opened their doubles competition with wins over UCLA and Wisconsin to advance to the quarterfinals.
In singles,
Tatum Prudhomme fell in the opening round of the first flight, but went on to win the consolation finals match against Francis Dean from Montana. She also won matches over Portland State and Wisconsin along the way.
Susan Baklini opened the competition with a 7-5, 7-6 win over UCLA's Maia Magill.
