GAME NOTES
VS. TEXAS-PAN AMERICAN
GCU and Texas-Pan American are meeting for just the second time, with the Antelopes coming out victorious on Jan. 2, 91-85 in Phoenix, in the first-ever WAC game for both teams.
GCU CLINCHES THIRD IN THE CONFERENCE/POSTSEASON HOPES
Despite their loss to New Mexico State on Thursday night, the Antelopes clinched third-place in the Western Athletic Conference with Chicago State's 79-76 loss that evening to Idaho. Utah Valley clinched the WAC regular season title last night with a win at home over Bakersfield. NMSU will finish in second place. The remainder of the conference will continue to battle it out today for seeding's for next weekend's WAC Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev. GCU has exceeded all expectations, as they were selected to finish eighth in the WAC preseason coaches' poll and ninth in the media poll. As for playing beyond the regular season, GCU is not eligible for the WAC, NCAA or NIT Tournaments. The 'Lopes, however, are available for the CBI (16 teams) and CIT Tournaments (32 teams). Those decisions will be made following the completion of the conference tournaments that will conclude next weekend. GCU is no stranger to the postseason after playing in the NCAA Tournament the last two seasons; their final two in D-II.
LAST TIME OUT
The 'Lopes dropped an 81-57 decision to New Mexico State at the Pan American Center as they were hampered by a 33.9 field goal percentage (21-for-62). A 24-6 run over the final four minutes of the first half and the first 4:30 of the second half was too much for GCU to overcome. Jeremy Adams matched his career-high with 14 points, while Killian Larson brought his double-double total to 19 with 13 points and 17 rebounds.
