ABOUT THE COLLEGEINSIDER.COM POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT
The CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) is a single-elimination tournament, consisting of five rounds with all games played on on-campus sites determined by seeding. This will be the sixth edition of the CIT, which has included past champions in Old Dominion, Missouri State, Santa Clara, Mercer and most recently, East Carolina. The 2009 and 2010 tournaments were contested by 16 teams. The 2011 CIT consisted of 24 teams. The field expanded to 32 in 2012. CBS Sports Network will broadcast the Semifinal Round on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 and Championship Game of the CIT on Thursday, April 3, 2014. GCU joins Omaha as just the second transitioning school to accept an invitation into the CIT.
BACK AT ANTELOPE GYM
The south version of Antelope Gymnasium opened in 1994-95 and played host to its first men's game on Jan. 7, 1995 when GCU defeated Pacific Christian 108-94. The Antelopes have an all-time record of 157-96 in the "south gym". The CIT First Round game will hold some added historical significance for the south gym as it will be the first postseason game the men's basketball program has ever hosted. The "north gym" was recently converted into four lecture halls. In their last season playing in Antelope Gym, the 'Lopes went 11-4 at home in 2010-11.
GCU CLINCHES THIRD IN THE CONFERENCE
The Antelopes clinched a third-place finish in the Western Athletic Conference, exceeding all expectations, as they were selected to finish eighth in the WAC preseason coaches' poll and ninth in the media poll. Utah Valley won the outright conference crown, while New Mexico State finished second, 1.0 game behind the Wolverines. The Aggies won the WAC Tournament Championship and will play San Diego State on March 20 in the NCAA Tournament.
LAST TIME OUT
The 'Lopes won their regular season finale, 79-78, at Texas-Pan American in a thrilling overtime contest on March 8. GCU had a chance to wrap it up in the second half, pushing open a six-point lead at 62-56 with 4:01 left in the second half. The Broncs continued to crawl back and tied the game with 3.9 seconds left. The 'Lopes used seven made free throws, an Alexander three-pointer and bucket by Killian Larson in overtime to earn the win. Larson led the Antelopes with 29 points and 16 rebounds, his 20
th double-double of the season.
