THE OPENING FOUR
The 'Lopes went 1-2 in their season opening series at the University of Louisiana at Monroe from Feb. 14-16. The 'Lopes rallied for three runs in the ninth inning of the second game, but fell one run short in a 5-4 loss. In the series finale, starter Coley Bruns recorded a career-best 10 strikeouts over 8.0 innings of work. David Walker led the 'Lopes offense with 5 hits in three games, reaching base in all 4 of his plate appearances on Sunday while also going 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts. Michael Pomeroy and Matt Haggerty both connected for their first homers of the season, while Chad De La Guerra led the team with 3 RBI. GCU dropped a 10-1 decision to Fresno State in a mid-week game on Feb. 18.
