For the second time this season, the Grand Canyon University men's basketball team (4-5) will appear on national television, today appearing on the Big Ten Network for their matchup with the Indiana Hoosiers (7-2) at historic Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. (Arizona time). The Antelopes appeared on the SEC Network for their season opener with top-ranked Kentucky. The game can be heard on radio on KXXT 1010 AM (also via the KXXT TuneIn Radio App), with GCU Alum Michael Potter calling the action alongside 'The Coach", Dan Nichols. GAME NOTESVS. INDIANAThis marks the first meeting between GCU and Indiana. The Hoosiers come into the game with a 7-2 record, with their most recent game being a 94-74 loss to fourth-ranked Louisville as part of the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden.
LAST TIME OUTGCU snapped their win streak with a 67-51 loss to Idaho State at GCU Arena on Dec. 9. The Antelopes shot just 33.3 percent from the floor (16-for-48), compared to 53.1 percent (26-for-49) for the Bengals. Jerome Garrison led the squad with 20 points on 6-for-10 shooting, while Miroslav Jaksic tallied a season-best nine points.
NO STRANGER TO THE BRIGHT LIGHTSIn just their second year in Division I, the GCU athletic program is no stranger to playing against some of the top schools in the country in a number of different sports. The men's basketball team opened the 2014-15 season at No. 1 Kentucky, and last year played at New Mexico. The wrestling program earlier this season competed at No. 2 Minnesota. The women's basketball team will welcome seventh-ranked Louisville to GCU Arena on Dec. 18. GCU's baseball program traveled to Arizona, Kansas, Washington, and USC in 2014 and have Cal Poly, Tennessee ,and Oklahoma State on their docket for 2015, while the men's soccer team took on Stanford in Palo Alto in 2013. The Antelopes' softball squad participated in a tournament last season that saw them take on perennial powers Alabama and Arizona.
MIXING IT UPDan Majerle has used four different starting lineups in nine games this season. The five-man crew of Matt Jackson, Daniel Alexander, Tobe Okafor, Jerome Garrison, and Royce Woolridge started the first three games, while Kerwin Smith, Joshua Braun, Sam Daly, Garrison, and Woolridge have started the last three games. Ryan Majerle is the other GCU player to start a game this season.
