Junior point guard
Kaitlyn Petersen scored a career-high 28 points, but Grand Canyon (13-6, 2-4) was up against hot-shooting Seattle U (10-10, 5-2) and lost Saturday's Western Athletic Conference game at Connolly Center 89-68.
Petersen was 11-for-11 at the free-throw line and hit three 3-pointers.
Deanna Daniels had 19 points and was 9-for-11 at the stripe.
Seattle U shot 57.1 percent (36-for-63) from the field, including 5-for-9 from 3-point range and had a sizable 48-26 advantage on the boards.
"Seattle did a good job executing their game plan," said GCU coach Trent May. "They shot well and defended well. It was a complete game by them.
"We have been pretty good defensively, but tonight was not one of our better nights on either side of the floor."
Jenna Pearson added eight points, while
Johnna Brown had six points and a team-high seven rebounds. Petersen added four assists and Daniels had three steals.
Seattle U scored 54 points in the paint.
"We gave up too many points in the paint," added May. "There was not a lot of resistance on the defensive side. They were balanced inside and outside and we weren't clicking tonight.
"We're going to get back at it, work out the kinks and get back to defending our homecourt."
GCU returns home for a 7 p.m. contest Thursday at GCU Arena against WAC-foe Chicago State. The game will be televised by Cox7.
