Grand Canyon, ranked No. 17 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Softball Poll, was swept in a doubleheader against Dixie State at Karl Brooks Field in St. George, Utah, Saturday.
GCU lost 8-7 in the opener and 8-0 in game two. The Antelopes finish the regular season 39-17 overall and 22-10 in the Pacific West Conference.
“We played hard, but we didn’t play clean and you can’t do that against a good team,” said GCU coach Ann Pierson. “The effort and energy was there, we just have to clean it up.”

www.ncaa.com, at 7:30 a.m. (Arizona Time) The top eight teams from the west region, selected from the PacWest, GNAC and CCAA, will make up the field with the three conference champions getting automatic bids. The five remaining teams will be at-large picks.
In game one, the Antelopes had leads of 2-0 and 4-3 and rallied from an 8-4 deficit to cut it to the final margin.
Claire Zampini went 2-for-4 with a double, triple, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Nicole Upshaw went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
Kayla Henry went 3-for-4 and tied the school record, set earlier this season by Zampini, by hitting in her 18th straight game.
Haley Walker also went 2-for-4.
The Antelopes out-hit the Red Stork 12-7. Dixie State scored all of its runs in two innings, scoring three in the third and five in the fourth.
In game two, the Antelopes had just four hits and committed three errors. Zampini had three of GCU’s hits and was 3-for-3 on the day.
Kiki Sepulveda had the other hit. Henry’s 18-game hitting streak came to an end.
