The Grand Canyon University men's and women's track and field teams retained their rankings from last week, holding the second and third spots, respectively, in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association outdoor track and field national poll, as released today.
For the third straight week, both squads also hold the top spot in the West Region.
The men have accumulated five NCAA Division II National Championship automatic qualifying marks through four weekends of outdoor competition.
Dario Horvat and
Fred Taylor own the first and second-fastest times in the country in the men's 100-meter dash,
Tyler Sipes has the third-fastest mark in the 110-meter hurdles,
Vince Frawley has the second-best pole vault, and
AAron Hill owns the top long jump mark.
On the women's side, the 'Lopes have seven automatic qualifiers, led by
Shavine Hodges with the second-fastest 100-meter dash and third-fastest 200-meter dash.
Samantha Bogatz owns the third-best time in the women's 100-meter dash. The 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay squads own the third- and second-fastest marks, respectively. Finally,
Amy Hop has the fourth-best pole vault in the nation.
GCU will be in action this weekend when they travel to Pomona, Calif., for the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday, April 13.
