Grand Canyon looks to notch another first in program history when it takes on Ohio State in a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association quarterfinal match in Columbus, Ohio, Saturday.
GCU, already guaranteed its first winning season in the program’s history, will attempt to get its first MIVA post season win and first win over the storied Buckeyes 4 p.m. Saturday at St. John Arena.
“We started preparing for this back in September with our strength and conditioning program, practice drills, then playing matches,” said GCU coach Jeremy Price. “That got us to this point. It’s win and advance or lose and the season is done.”
With a sweep of Lindenwood last week, GCU was assured a winning season for the first time, along with setting the program’s new mark (16) for wins in a season. GCU is 16-14 heading into the match against the 19-7 Buckeyes.
The winner of Saturday’s match will advance to the semifinals and take on top-seed Lewis in Romeoville, Ill., on Wednesday.
“I think our guys are ready for the challenge,” added Price. “We’re playing a team with a great tradition of success and a lot of post season experience. We’ll be playing in a tough environment and it’s going to be a tough challenge.”
