Grand Canyon improved to 14-10 with a 3-0 victory at UC Santa Cruz Monday.
The Antelopes are one win away from tying the school record for wins, set last season when the team went 15-17 and earned a first-ever home match in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association post season tournament.
On Monday, the ’Lopes hit .386 as a team, with a match-best .551 in the second, and won by set scores of 25-23, 25-17, 25-22.
“Our outside hitters led the way tonight,” said coach Jeremy Price.
Andrew Muys had 17 kills and Ben Ponnet added 13 to go with seven digs. Robbie Brannick had eight kills and seven digs. Trent Bruns had nine digs and Christian Ward had nine block assists.
Price also lauded the play off the bench of freshman Gerrard Lipscombe, used primarily as a back row player.
The Antelopes have six matches remaining. They play their final road MIVA matches March 27-28 at Loyola-Chicago and finish the season with four matches at home, including two non-conference contests with St. Francis (PA) on Apr. 5-6 and the MIVA and season finale at home against Lindenwood (Apr. 11, 13).
“We’re really happy to come through this road trip 2-1,” added Price, whose club split with Pacific Friday and Saturday. “We look forward the rest of the regular season and our last four conference matches. It’s coming down to the wire and we have an opportunity to do some things that haven’t been done before.”
