Antelopes to Host NDNU March 5-6
After receiving votes the past two weeks, Grand Canyon has moved into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25.
The poll, released Wednesday, has the Antelopes No. 24, receiving 52 total points.
GCU is 12-5 on the season. All five of its losses and three of its wins have come to teams in the Top 25 or receiving votes. The Antelopes open Pacific West Conference play with a four-game series March 5-6 at Stapleton-Pierson Field against Notre Dame de Namur, who is among the teams receiving votes in the NFCA poll.
Grand Canyon beat No. 22 Abilene Christian and went 2-1 against Midwestern State, among the teams receiving votes. GCU went 0-2 against No. 15 Texas Woman’s and also has losses to No. 3 West Texas A&M – in extra innings – and to No. 18 Sonoma State.
“I’m pleased with the start of our season,” said Grand Canyon coach Ann Pierson. “Our schedule has been tough. I’m hoping our non-conference games will prepare us for a tough PacWest season.”
The ’Lopes are one of six West Region teams ranked or receiving votes. Cal State Dominguez Hills is No. 5, Dixie State is No. 11 and Sonoma State is No. 18. Along with Notre Dame de Namur, Cal State Monterey Bay is receiving votes.
