The Grand Canyon University women’s basketball team is ranked 19
th in the latest Women’s Basketball Coaches Association poll, as announced today.
West Region teams continue to look strong in the national rankings, with Western Washington at No. 8, Simon Fraser at No. 11, and Cal State Chico at No. 13.
The ‘Lopes went 1-1 last week in the final two games of their Northern California road trip, falling to Academy of Art, 63-55, in overtime on Thursday, and defeating Dominican, 51-38, on Saturday. GCU returns home for two games this week, beginning with a matchup against Hawai’i Pacific on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. That game will serve as Homecoming and Senior Night at GCU Arena.
Judy Jones continues to lead the way for the ‘Lopes with 16.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per game and is tied for first nationally with 17 double-doubles on the season.
Maylinn Smith is also averaging double-digit points with 12.3 per game.
As a team, GCU ranks second in the country with a 13.6 rebounding margin and 13
th with a 15.8 scoring margin.
