After coming off a 4-0 weekend and winning the Holiday Inn Grand Canyon University Invitational, the Antelopes’ women’s volleyball team jumped into the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, released Monday, at No. 24.
GCU knocked off No. 3 CSU San Bernardino, the 2011 NCAA Division II runner-up, 3-1 Saturday night and beat No. 17 UC San Diego 3-1 on Friday.
“We are humbled and honored to be recognized for our hard work and dedication,” said GCU coach Kris Naber. “We were very happy with how the weekend went, but we know there is still a lot of work to do to reach the goals we want to achieve.”
GCU also had a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Central Washington, which had beaten No. 10 Metro State earlier in the day.
GCU plays host to Western New Mexico (1-4) 6 p.m. tonight at Antelope Gymnasium before heading to Grand Junction, Colo. for matches Thursday-Saturday at the Holiday Inn Crossroads Classic.
