The No. 13 Grand Canyon University women’s volleyball team bounced back from last night’s loss to No. 12 BYU-Hawai’i, knocking off Hawai’i Pacific, 3-1, at St. Andrew’s Priory in Honolulu, Hawai’i. The victory capped the Antelopes’ Hawaiian road trip with an impressive 3-1 record.
GCU won tonight by set scores of 28-26, 21-25, 25-23, 25-15.
The win improves the Antelopes to 13-2 overall, 3-2 in the Pacific West Conference. Hawai’i Pacific falls to 7-4, 1-2 in the league.
“Tonight’s win was a great bounce back win after the loss last night,” said head coach Kris Naber. “We were challenged throughout the night, but rose to that challenge and took control of the match.”

Janae Giles led the Antelopes with 14 kills. She also added 13 digs. Senior setter
Kristen Preach had 42 of Antelopes’ 50 assists.

Mackenzie Phelps had 34 digs, while senior
Sara Bowden added 14.
Senior middle blocker
Shelby Taylor hit .400 with five kills and just one error in 10 attempts.
The first set was a tightly contested affair as the ‘Lopes thwarted four HPU match points. After dropping the second set, the Antelopes broke open a 20-20 third-set tie to take a two sets to one lead. GCU jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the fourth set and cruised to their 13
th win of the season.
“The girls got better every set they played,” added Naber. “I give them credit for pulling together and making this a true team effort.”
With the win, GCU has now gone 8-1 in matches away from Phoenix.
Grand Canyon returns home for a match on Sept. 29 against PacWest newcomer, Azusa Pacific. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m. (Arizona time) and will be played in Antelope Gymnasium.
