The Grand Canyon University women’s basketball program today announced the addition of Asha McDonnell to their roster for the upcoming season. McDonnell previously played at Salt Lake Community College and is a product of Serra High School in San Diego, Calif.
“We are excited for Asha to be part of the ‘Lopes family,” said head coach Trent May. “We know the desire and work ethic she brings to the program instantly gives us a big lift. Asha will add to the quality and depth of our post players.”
The 6-4 center played in 21 games for Salt Lake CC last season and averaged 5.7 points. She led the team with 39 blocks. McDonnell shot 56 percent from the field (53-for-95) and grabbed 120 total rebounds for a 5.7 average. Following the season, she was named Most Improved Player for the Bruins.
McDonnell spent her freshman season at San Diego Mesa College, where she saw action in 26 games. She made 50 percent of her field goals (57-for-121) and averaged 5.2 points. McDonnell also averaged 6.9 rebounds and led the team with 33 blocks.
She earned the Most Improved Player award during her junior year of high school at Serra after averaging 7.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. She was a two-year letter winner with the Conquistadors.
McDonnell joins Keyanna Johnson, Jasmine Grayson, Justine Johnson and Jasmine Cannon as additions to the 2012-13 squad.
